It does not get any closer than overtime of a Game 7 playoff match. A major turnaround season for the Windsor Spitfires came to a conclusion with a Game 7 overtime loss to the Kitchener Rangers in the second round of the Ontario Hockey League playoffs.

The 2-1 Game 7 win for Kitchener over the injury-wracked Spitfires capped a series comeback for the Rangers that had them down 3-0 in games at one point.

The Spitfires played without as many as eight injured skaters at various points throughout this spring’s playoffs which began with a four games to one triumph over the Soo Greyhounds and then ended with the Game 7 setback to Kitchener.

And for Windsor, which had 96 regular season points as compared to 100 for Kitchener, it marked a tough end to a 12 game playoff run for the Spitfires by losing at home, in overtime, in Game 7.

Despite the disappointment of defeat, the Spitfires rapid ascent from last season to this is truly inspiring and impressive. The Spitfires went from 44 regular season points in ’23-24 to 96 points in ’24-25.
