Overage defenseman Tnias Mathurin is headed to the Spitfires by way of an Ontario Hockey League trade with the North Bay Battalion. The deal involves a number of future draft picks.

The 6 foot 3, 190 pound Mathurin was picked in the third round by North Bay at the 2020 OHL priority selections draft. He was then chosen by the Detroit Red Wings in the fifth round of the 2022 National Hockey League draft. Mathurin, who did not sign with Detroit, will instead attend the main NHL camp of the Chicago Blackhawks in the fall.

At any rate, Spitfires general manager Billy Bowler commented on bringing Mathurin to Windsor.

“Tnias is an NHL drafted player and a smooth skater. We think his presence and character will help our group. He is a solid defender who can play in any situation,” relayed Bowler.

Mathurin, in turn, is happy to be moving on to the Spitfires.

“Couldn’t be more pumped. It is an amazing opportunity … I’ve never been so excited going into a season before!” Mathurin exclaimed. “I have only heard amazing things about (the Spitfires) and the city of Windsor, and I can’t wait to get going.”

The addition of Mathurin gives Windsor its three overage players for the ’24-25 season. The others are forwards Ryan Abraham and Noah Morneau.
