Essex 73’s drop opener
New Hamburg Firebirds have taken a one game to none lead on the Essex 73’s in their Provincial Jr. C Hockey League semi final playoff set.
The visitors from New Hamburg scored a 2-1 overtime decision over Essex in Game 1 of the best of seven series. Seth Martineau scored the only goal for Essex.
Game 2 in the Schmalz Cup semi final series is slated for Monday in New Hamburg. Game 3 is back in Essex next Wednesday night.
