Injury riddled Spitfires
The injury bug continues to ravage the Spitfires as no less than nine players — seven of them veterans — were sidelined for Game 5 of Windsor’s second round Ontario Hockey League playoff series with the Kitchener Rangers.
An illness forced Windsor captain Liam Greentree to miss Game 5 and the high scoring forward joined a cast of injured teammates that includes fellow forwards Cole Davis, A.J. Spellacy, Owen Outwater, Ethan Belchetz and J.C. Lemieux and defensemen Tnias Mathurin, Carson Woodall and Tanner Winegard on the Spitfires inactive list.
Taking advantage of the severely shortened Spitfires lineup, the visitors from Kitchener skated to a 5-2 victory in Game 5 that included an empty net goal.
The Spitfires still lead the best of seven series, but now by a 3-2 margin, with Game 6 slated for Kitchener on Sunday evening.
